Tiguan SUV sales surpassed 12,100 units
volkswagen-logoEven though the market is slowing, this year Shanghai Volkswagen powers ahead with 14.4% increase in sales as compared to the overall increase in auto market which was just 3.3%. The joint venture between SAIC Motor Corp and German automaker Volkswagen Group sales in the first eight months totaled more than 700,000 units including the Polo, Lavida, Passat, Tiguan and Touran. Volkswagen marked a record in August with the Tiguan SUV as its sales surpassed 12,100 units. The company is expanding its production at its new Nanjing plant and with this the mid-sized sedan sales are expected to increase further. [...]

vw Volkswagen arrived late to the sport utility vehicle party when it launched the Touareg (pronounced “TOUR-egg”) for 2004. Electronically controlled 4XMotion permanent four-wheel drive includes off-road gearing. Up to 100 percent of the engine’s power can be sent to either the front or rear wheels. Off-road helpers include Hill Climb Assist, Hill Descent Assist and a locking center differential. A navigation system is optional.
