The next generation BMW 1 Series which is due to arrive in second half of 2011has already been spied on the roads.

Despite of being in the early stages of its development BMW’s product development chief, Klaus Draeger being very confident has said that “the new generation model would cater for fast developing new segments with a shooting-brake two-door wagon being considered”.

As compared to the current model, Mercedes is aiming to make the new M-Class more efficient. In order to reduce its weight engineers have avoided giving it a long front, rear overhangs and even the wheelbase doesn’t appear to be stretched. Rather there are few subtle design changes in the rear door, side mirrors, door handles position, roof rack and the higher rear window.

Looking at the engines, including petrol engines between 3.5 and 6.2-litres and consumption-optimized diesel units with 3.0 and 4.0-litres there is a strong possibility for Mercedes-Benz to offer a plug-in hybrid electric variant.
