15 bullet proof SUVs proofed in a week

The bulletproofing industry is booming, with more and more politicians securing themselves from terrorists, Naxalites and other dangers.

With the poll campaigning on, bulletproof SUVs demand has shot up. Last week alone, at least 15 SUVs, including Mitsubishi Pajeros, Toyota Land Cruiser Prados and Ford Endeavours SUVs belonging to political parties in Mumbai have been bulletproofed. The last to get a bulletproof shield was a BMW 7, said to be owned by a state cabinet minister.

Small cars too are in the race. Two Maruti Gypsy vans were recently converted into bulletproof vehicles. However, no Ambassador car, a favourite with ‘government’ officials and ministers for long, has been bulletproofed this time in the city.

“We have a great demand for customising high-end cars. Most who approached us recently had brought their expensive cars like Mitsubishi Pajeros, Scorpios, Monteros and Land Cruisers,” says Shreyas Parikh, who heads the Mumbai-based Parikh Armouring Company.
