Toyota to Recall 333,000 RAV4 And Highlander ModelsAs stated by Toyota Motor Corp on Thursday that they are going to recall approximately 333,000 RAV4 and Highlander SUVs owing to the risk airbags sensors which could fail and cause the curtain airbags to set out. This recall will only affect the vehicles sold in North America. All the RAV4 and Highlander owners will be notified of the recall via mail in May. Toyota also confirmed that, in cases where two sensors fail at just about the same time, the side curtain airbags were basically designed to protect passengers in a rollover accident may possibly be inflated outside such an accident. In case if just one of the sensors fails, the airbags warning light will be set off to alert the driver. The sensors were made by Denso Corp. This recall roughly covers around 214,000 RAV4 and about 94,000 Highlander SUVs from the 2007 and 2008 model years in the United States, and around 19,000 RAV4 and 6,000 Highlanders in Canada. The spokesperson of the Corp confirmed that the problem was fixed in January 2008 by making the required changes in the manufacturing of the sensors and no more recalls are expected on this problem. The spokesman also added no accidents related to the curtain airbags issue, but said that some minor injuries have been reported. He said he did not know how many injuries have been reported.
