Recall Alert for Nissan Cars, Trucks and SUVsNissan is conducting a recall campaign for Garmin navigation units sold at its dealerships, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with Navigation 750, 760 and 765 GPS devices are threatened for a vehicle fire due to overheating batteries in the devices. The recalled models and model years are:
NHTSA does not say precisely how many vehicles will be influenced by the faulty batteries. But according to Nissan, 7,948 of the systems were either factory- or dealer-installed by the manufacturers. Garmin technicians will make the required mends to the GPS units by changing the battery with a new, less-toasty element and adding another spacer between the battery and the rest of the device. The refurbish won’t charge owners anything except a little time and a trip to the local dealer. Nissan will inform the owners directly about the recall, which is planned to begin sometime during this month.
