Not going to say Goodbye to America - Mitsubishi.Mitsubishi has not had an easy run over the last couple of years and the sales have plunged deeper from the peak year in 2002 when the brand was able to sell 354,111 units. The President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Mr. Osamu Masuko has been asked time and again whether the company is all set to leave the U.S. market but he retaliates by saying that the thought has never entered his mind still. (We wonder why.) It occurs that the company with the three-diamond logo has bigger plans and condescending goals for the near future. Presently, Mitsubishi manages to push about 50,000 vehicles a year and Masuko’s private goal is to escalate the figure to 200,000 vehicles which is an estimation of a 400-percent increase. He understands that the path to success towards his goals is in the course of introduction of new products and reasonable incentives and thinks that both of which would assist in helping drive a stable and sustainable growth in sales. The product lineup is moving away from a past which is congested with larger sedans and SUVs. Mitsubishi has an aim to go for smaller and much more fuel effectual vehicles along with all-electric vehicles like the “i-MiEV”. Additionally, the company has plans to move away from regional vehicles and continue to develop the ones on unswerving global platforms. As the market in the U.S. accounts only for less than 10% of the global sales, this could seem as the right strategy and best move. However, the smaller vehicles are the ones that mostly bring in smaller profit potentials and it would be worth the wait to watch if Mitsubishi would be able to survive with this type of business strategy. Meanwhile, the bottom line of Osamu Masuko claims that change is inevitable and it is going to happen. Mitsubishi believes that it is going to turn the ship around this year with newer offerings like the Outlander Sport and the fact that the brand remains loyal to regain its past success in the American Market. With speculation running rife, it is left to be seen what happens to Mitsubishi but for now all that we can do is wait and watch.
