Honda CR-V vs. Mazda CX-5 … who takes the cake?Though by a minuscule margin, Honda CR-V has scored more than the closest competitor Mazda CX-5 in the small SUV tests as conducted by the Consumer Reports. Both SUVs faired impressively, but with its better cargo and passenger seating capabilities and easy access, Honda CR-V finally made it to the top. Basically, Honda’s orientation towards the family crowd has helped this automaker bag the award. In comparison, both Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 accommodate equal number of passengers, have almost similar stats and they are available in front and all wheel drive. Moreover, the pricing structure too is comparable, but they attract different kind of buyer groups. Even in the road tests, they ended up with close figures of 75 and 77 for Mazda and Honda respectively. Given the similarities, CR decided based upon their characteristics. The new Honda CR-V is more inclined towards family audiences. It has a spacious backseat and in comparison to CX-5, is found to be quicker. Though, Honda is a little noisy on roads, but with a refined drivetrain, the SUV is a comfortable drive. So if Consumer Reports is somebody you trust, go with their recommendation and i.e. Honda CR-V. Besides, on papers Mazda CX-5 is impressive and is priced correctly, yet the vehicle is all too new. It scores closely, but when it comes to on road reviews, this SUV still has to prove itself. The list also included pricey names like Mercedes-Benz ML 350 and BMW X5. Though they have attempted improvisations, but when it comes to real competition, they still are far behind.
