Chrysler repairs Grand Cherokee handling concern identified by Consumer ReportsAccording to Consumer Reports, Chrysler has to concentrate on a handling issue with the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee that the publication learnt about during independent testing. During a double-lane-change emergency maneuver, CR testers made a note of a substantial amount of skidding and hopping at the very limit of grip. Later on the Chrysler engineers went to the magazine’s test track to assess the findings before returning to Auburn Hills to come up with an explanation. In December, the automaker announced a software update for the vehicle’s stability control, plus all Grand Cherokee models produced and assembled since then have come from the plant with the repair. Consumer Reports was recently able to put the restructured 2011 Grand Cherokee through its speeds at the track once more and found that the issue had been corrected. The full-size SUV managed to maintain an average speed of 50 mph all the way through the course and conducted itself at and further than the limits of the vehicle’s grip. The repair has helped the vehicle’s Consumer Reports rating to get better for the Grand Cherokee from a 66 to a 71.
