Mid size SUVs – Reviews and lineupOverview Midsized SUV debuted in the Automobile Industry and were widely famous by early 90’s with just few SUV models. Today the market has 29 SUV vehicles that we will be classifying for your ready reference. SUV’s are made traditionally on truck-like body frame platforms. Mid size truck-based SUVs have a greater towing capacity than cars or crossovers and can handle more adverse off-road conditions when they have four-wheel drive. Most SUVs do no have an independent rear suspension, which makes it a rougher ride for its passengers. Truck-based SUVs can’t be handled as well as cars or crossovers which results in lower SUV gas mileage. Although most Mid size SUVs are equipped with a six-cylinder engine, some mid size SUV vehicles have an eight-cylinders, making them more ideal for transportation of heavy loads. Yes, it takes an even greater toll on SUV gas mileage. Mid size SUVs are liable to ride high with lots of interior room for passenger and cargo, and the appearance of the exterior is tough, strong but yet sporty looking. Today’s mid size car-type SUVs are highly sophisticated and advanced with latest technologies such as Nissan Murano, GMC Acadia, and Ford Flex, have been quite popular in recent years. There are a few companies that still offer more truck-like mid size SUVs namely Toyota and Ford. Midsized SUVs are a good choice for extrovert families’ or singles that enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing or camping. There is enough space in the SUV for over five passengers though nowadays many models offer a third row which increases the seating capacity from just five to seven and, in few cases eight. As of now the 2010 SUV models have seen one new introduction: The GMC Terrain. The redesigned SUV models for 2010 include Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota 4Runner. Kia Sorento is also redesigned but will be tagged as a 2011’s SUV model, and skips the 2010 model year. Further SUV vehicles receive styling and power train updates. The Hyundai Santa Fe SUV gets reworked styling and new engines for this year. Toyota’s FJ Cruiser SUV gets a more powerful V6 engine. Ford Flex SUV includes the availability of Eco-Boost turbocharged V6 engine. There are a few changes for Subaru Tribeca as they add new trim levels and standard seven-passengers seating. Mazda’s CX-7 has a new base engine and refreshing style. After the 2009 SUV model year, the Chevrolet Trail-Blazer, Ford Taurus X, GMC Envoy, Suzuki XL7, Saturn Outlook, Dodge Durango and Pontiac Torrent; all went to the immense parking lot in the blue.
