2011 Ford Edge Overview.

Going on sale this summer, the 2011 Ford Edge receives a number of significant improvements, plus more than the regular nip and tuck routine job that midsize SUVs commonly receive. The improvements have begun from under the hood, where buyers can choose from three engines. Topping that list is a new EcoBoost 2.0-liter turbo inline-4. Although this engine is not available until later this year,

Ford maintains that fuel should return 15 percent more than the current 3.5-liter V6, which boils down to about 21 miles per gallon in city and 30 mpg on the highway drives. The Ford Edge’s two new V6 engines includes a revamped version of the present 3.5-liter V6 that generates 285 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, and is an adaptation of the Mustang’s 3.7-liter V6 rated at 305 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Although many have not taken a test drive of this SUV, this mid-size crossover will surely keep the temperature of competition high even though the category appears to be over-crowded.

Driving Impressions:

Not that the Edge 2010 was bad, wrong or unpleasant. Yet besides completely reworked model Ford just released in 2011, it may as well be a model T. The crossover utility vehicle has been given a complete makeover, smoothed down and well versed in technology for its fifth year on the market. Twenty percent more torque the engine itself with better fuel economy, too. The all-new front fascia gives a “Move over Image” in the rear view mirror and the in-built computer will not just let you place calls with voice commands but it will also read your incoming text messages to you aloud.

2011 Ford Edge Pros:

  • Comfortable ride
  • Betterd interior features
  • More engine choices
  • Modern technology features
  • Lots of safety equipment

2011 Ford Edge Cons:

  • Third-row seat not available
  • Higher price of Edge models
